Your zodiac symbol, this time a whimsical one from the Magical Child zodiac, is a Seagoat—a goat with the tail of a fish, and the element of your sign is Earth...but the fishtail symbol suggests also being quite at home with Earth, as in Water. How can that be? Well, the two elements are compatible, forming sextiles and trines with each other... but well, let's face it, although they may mix quite well, can't that also result in mud? Yes, but then both elements are very much required for plants to grow.

Earth, the official element of Capricorn, is serious and practical—"down to earth," of course. As for water, there's a not so immediately evident side of this sign that can be dreamy with intuitive flow. Within the serious Capricorn is often a quite whimsical persona, along with a sense of humor and wit that fits the Seagoat image well. A favorite Capricorn memory of mine is of a serious and academic professor who would on some special occasions bring out his guitar, his gentle voice and old story-telling ballads, to the delight of all who gathered around him. Maybe this whimsical side of you is because you're a deep thinker who sees both the gloom of it all, but also the humor within any situation.

Your organizational abilities can inspire others, and thus you are likely to find yourself in leadership roles. You tend to take on the burdens of all those around you, so keen is your sense of responsibility and duty...and maybe also just your doubt that anyone else can really do the task at hand as well as you can. You may need to learn how to delegate and when to say "no."

Your birthday comes at the time of year when, in the northern hemisphere, the Sun is reborn at Winter Solstice. Think of the waxing light and new promise, as you consider prospects for your year ahead.

The following cycles are based on your sun sign and represent general trends over the next year. For more detailed information at a special price, Astro’s Planetary Guide to Your Future will provide you with a wealth of information on short-term (daily, weekly) and long-term forecasts based on transits to your specific birth chart.

Jupiter retrograde at 17 Cancer when Sun enters Capricorn on Winter Solstice 2013, and continues retrograde until March 6, when he turns direct at 10 Cancer. This is your solar House 7, of close one-to-one relationships such as marriage or partnerships. Jupiter is the "great benefic," so the relationship area of your life should be going quite well.

After turning direct, Jupiter returns to the 17th degree by mid May and then moves steadily onward through Cancer and then passes into the sign of Leo on July 16. He continues in Leo until turning retrograde at 23 Leo on December 8, 2014. So, the second half of your solar year, Jupiter will be in your solar House 8. This is the area that involves what you share with a partner, and again, matters of this house are favored by the transit of Jupiter.

Saturn Saturn is at about 20° Scorpio as your solar year begins. This is solar House 11 for Capricorn Sun. Whatever prestige you may have been gained with Saturn in your solar House 10, is likely to continue, but the emphasis moves toward sharing with others—the groups to which you belong and your associations. Share your knowledge and your abilities. Lead when appropriate, but without seeking to dominate others. It is the goals of the groups with whom you are involved that should dominate, rather than your own personal goals. You may be called upon to take on extra responsibilities for such a group. If so, take on what you reasonably can do well, and then do your part to build the team.

If, on the other hand, the transit of Saturn in solar House 11 seems disappointing in terms of achieving your goals , then you need to examine what isn’t working and learn from it. You can still benefit from working with groups in a team effort. Your associations with friends and groups may be tested as to when its best to go along with the crowd as differentiated from when it is right to stand up and oppose them. Be open toward others and respect their freedom, but hold true to your own ideas and stick up for them with honor, when the situation calls upon you to do so.

Uranus, planet of change, innovation and the unexpected, is in early Aries on your late 2013 or early 2014 birthday. Aries is square Capricorn and the aspect at the beginning of your solar year will be closest for those whose birthdays are in the last few days of December. Uranus moves steadily forward until turning retrograde July 21 at 17 Aries. Now the aspect is strongest for those Capricorns whose birthdays are in mid January.

Aries is the sign of your solar House 4 of your home and roots, and Uranus here is potentially unsettling. It could possibly mean a move, or if not that, perhaps reflect changes that you make within your home. The potential of Uranus here is influenced by the ongoing square to transiting Pluto in Capricorn. The significance of this ongoing square is strongest this year for those Capricorn Suns whose birthdays are in early to mid January. Uranus and Pluto in square combines the Uranus themes of suddenness or unexpected or surprising change with Pluto themes of upheaval and transformation. See the section of this report on Pluto for more about this.

Uranus square Sun can be a restless time, maybe even including rebellious feelings toward something or someone in your life. You need to feel free to express yourself creatively, but at the same time, you don’t want to upset the structures of your life in ways you’ll wish you hadn’t. Somehow you need to express your independence or craving for adventure and change, for if entirely suppressed something may happen when you least expect it to precipitate a change you didn’t really want. Sometime this aspect reflects a time when an external event beyond your control tests your ability to handle change effectively. Successful handling of this aspect requires flexibility. A best way to make it work out well for you is to take the lead in doing something positive that expresses the transit theme. Do something creative and original that reawakens your joy in life.

Neptune continues to move forward in the very early degrees of Pisces, the sign of your solar House 3, and Pisces is the sign that Neptune rules, so is particularly strong here. Neptune’s nature is idealistic, dreamy, spiritually oriented, and often artistic. Since Neptune inclines toward escapism, finding clarity in your thinking could become an issue of this transit through House 3. On the other hand (thinking positively), this could be a time when you learn ways to successfully combine your imagination and dreams with the objective realities of your everyday world. In general, the sign of Pisces forms a cooperating relationship with the sign of Capricorn.

A lesson of this transit, with Neptune in House 3, could be in learning how to successfully blend the objective (what is said) with what is meant (often quite objective) in a manner that is clear, both to yourself and to others. Remember that in good communication, listening is equally important as speaking, and perception is everything. It makes little difference what anyone says, for the thing that is important is how what is said is perceived. Neptune is about nuance, intuition and subjectivity. So, somehow, Neptune transiting your solar House 3 may be about learning how to manage such distinctions well.

Pluto begins your solar year at 11° Capricorn, advances to 14° then turns retrograde in April, moves back to 11° in September , then turns direct and finishes your solar year at 13° again. So, the conjunction to your Sun (a very strong aspect) will be especially close for those whose birthdays are December 31-January 2. Pluto conjunct Sun—or in Solar House 1, which applies to all Capricorns—calls upon you to probe deeply, and likely turn things inside out and upside down as you seek understanding and self-mastery. This kind of upheaval, as you can imagine, is not always pleasant, but you can--and will, if you choose-- emerge from it with a sense of growth, new wisdom and inner power. Pluto represents lessons about power. If you are too intense about being in control, power struggles and emotional turmoil can result. Avoid power strugges, for you may be more emotional than you think. You are called upon to learn how to balance your needs with the needs of others. Discover when it’s best to compromise and when you must stand firm. You can be a very positive force in your world when you truly understand yourself, and when your focus is on self-mastery rather than attempting to exert control over yourself, or over someone or something else. This year, and those to come while Pluto is in your Sun sign, are times of golden opportunity to transform aspects of your personality, improving both your personal power and your relationships in the process.

In 2014 it is especially significant for you to note that there will be two exact squares of transiting Uranus and Pluto. The first is on April 21 with Uranus at 13 Aries 34 and Pluto at 13 Capricorn 34 retrograde. The second is on Dec. 15 with Uranus at 13 Aries 35 retrograde and Pluto at 12 Capricorn 35. This very intense square will, of course, be most significant for you, personally, if your Sun degree is very near the degrees of the exact squares. But this is a generational transit that will be significant far beyond you and your personal part of the world. Its theme is quite likely to impact many worldwide. We will likely be seeing national and international events that reflect the transformative theme of this strong outer planet aspect.

For yourself, personally, you can lead and influence what the aspect may mean for you by taking stock of any changes that you know you ought to make in your life, and make them. Don't wait for things to "happen" TO you. You have the power to influence how to make this aspect work FOR you in a positive sense. So, claim that power! Some type of change, perhaps quite transformative, even radical, is the theme. Some of what transpires will be within the wider world, but in some ways the changes may take place within yourself or your environment. Just know that you always have the power to choose, at least to some extent, how things might be for you—IF you claim that power and take the lead on it! Make the most of this transit by seeing change as an opportunity for growth. Look for ways that you can find advantage within change.
