NEW MOON REPORT
by Maritha Pottenger
March 5, 2000

This month features the spring equinox (in the northern hemisphere) and the beginning of our zodiac (the Sun at zero Aries). This is a time of new life, fresh beginnings and the excitement of exploring the many possibilities that lie ahead. In some cultures, this is the traditional time of the New Year. We can use astrology to help us refine our plans, solidify our resolutions, and keep us on a track toward greater happiness and fulfillment.

New Moon, Sunday, March 5 at 9:17 PM PST. This New Moon occurs at 15 Pisces 57.
New Moons are propitious for new beginnings. In Pisces, this New Moon emphasizes starting a new chapter through your visualizing skills, compassion, idealism, or intuition. You can see new potentials, imagine inspirational possibilities. Now is the time to commit to a new direction in regard to helping, healing, charitable, artistic, or imaginative pursuits. You will be more open to the wisdom of the cosmos, more sensitive to the people (and environments) around you. Pay attention to subtle cues and omens while building toward your dreams. This New Moon is extra significant for people born around March 5-10, June 5-10, September 7-12, or December 7-11.

Saturn quincunxes Pluto, Monday, March 6 at 3:56 AM PST.
The two planets of tenacity and commitment remind us that bringing dreams into form takes perseverance (Pluto) and hard work (Saturn). The quincunx indicates that analysis is essential. Also called the "closet-cleaning" aspect, it marks a time to examine the things, ideas, habit patterns, relationships, and trends in our life. We need to keep what is healthy, or can be modified to be useful, and get rid of the garbage. It is time to eliminate and to refurbish.

Venus enters Pisces, Monday, March 13 at 3:36 AM PST.
When the planet of love enters the sign of dreams and visions, romance can be quite potent. We are more susceptible to fantasies and fairy-tale ideas. This can be excellent in regard to artistic, imaginative, and visionary pursuits, but we should keep a bit of caution in interpersonal relationships. Take a second look. Don't fall into trying to rescue partners. Be sure that your idealism and quest for the best is shared with partners and good friends.

Mercury turns direct, Tuesday, March 14 at 12:34 PM PST.
It is time to "go forward" with our mental projects and plans. The cycle emphasizes activity in regard to commerce, communication, and curiosity. Directness and candor can pay off. Openness in writing is probably a good idea. Be assertive in the pursuit of your ideas and plans for the future.

Pluto turns retrograde, Tuesday, March 14 at 9:31 PM PST.

The retrograde cycle of Pluto (which lasts several months--until August 20th) reminds us that inner investigation is vital. We should remain vigilant in looking beneath the surface-in life, in other people, in our own psyche. This favors depth psychotherapy, occult studies, increased understanding of strategy and tactics, research, probing into the motivations of others, and gaining insight into what is hidden from view.

Jupiter squares Neptune, Thursday, March 16 at 9:15 AM PST.
When the two idealistic planets are aspecting one another, we need to be sure that our dreams are reasonable. Giving up on our aspirations completely would lead to a dry, arid, meaningless life. But expecting more than is reasonable can result in cosmic discontent. We are particularly being asked to find a common ground between the goals of our intellect (Jupiter) and the goals of our emotions (Neptune). Find a compromise between the callings of your head and your heart.

Full Moon, at 29Virgo/Pisces 53, Sunday, March 19 at 8:44 PM PST.
This Full Moon takes place at 29Virgo/Pisces 53. The Full Moon follows up on the Jupiter/Neptune motifs. The balancing act between realism (Virgo) and idealism (Pisces) is highlighted. Now is a time to be sensibly compassionate; realistically mystical; to blend aspirations with common sense and hard work. The down side is perfectionism, nagging dissatisfaction, procrastination and unreachable dreams. The upside is turning your visions into reality, manifesting your ideals and bringing your dreams into material form. This Full Moon is especially relevant for people born around March 19-23, June 19-24, September 21-25, or December 20-24.

The Sun enters Aries, Sunday, March 19 at 11:35 PM PST.
Spring has sprung! This is a time for new directions! The "me first" energy of Aries is eager to break new ground. Like the flowers just peeking out from the soil of winter, you'll have opportunities to push beyond the constraints of the past into a more exciting future. Think about what you most want to "give birth to" and take steps to make it happen.

Mars enters Taurus, Wednesday, March 22 at 5:25 PM PST.
Stamina and staying power are highlighted. The initiating spirit and pioneering spark of the Sun in Aries can be carried into enduring results with Mars in Taurus. The willingness to keep on keeping on is strong. There is good commitment for affecting the material world, for pursuing sensual satisfaction, physical resources (including money), and comfort.
