NEW MOON REPORT
by Maritha Pottenger
April 4, 2000

As “April showers” move toward “May flowers,” we cycle from the desire and movement of Aries into the sensual savoring of Taurus. In the zodiac, fire signs (like Aries) initiate action and earth signs (like Taurus) bring energy into form and deal with the material world. The rhythms of life are reflected by astrology, and tuning into your horoscope can help you to view the patterns in your life more objectively.

New Moon, Tuesday, April 4 at 11:12 AM PDT.
New Moons are traditionally propitious for new beginnings, and even more so with this one occurring in Aries (15 degrees and 16 minutes)—the beginning of our zodiac. The time is ripe to do something that is very much your own. Independent action is favored. Think in terms of something pioneering, or you being first in some way. Projects or plans that you begin now can come to fruition in about a year, or can be taken to the next stage in about a month (at the next New Moon). This New Moon is particularly significant for people born around April 3-8, July 6-10, October 7-11 or January 4-8.

Venus enters Aries, Thursday, April 6 at 11:37 AM PDT.
The eagerness of the hunter arouses in love. The planet of relationships, affection and pleasure enters the sign of courage, assertion and direct, forthright action. This is a time to go after what (and who) you want. Courage serves you well. Passions are apt to be more powerful and the role of pursuer could appeal over being pursued. The pursuit of pleasure becomes more open and obvious.

The North Node enters Cancer, Saturday, April 8 at 5:10 PM PDT.
The Nodes are keys to our emotional buttons—and the people who push them. We are apt to be more sensitive about matters of security and protection, and to be more aware of the balancing act between home/family and career/outer world responsibilities. We’ll be working on that middle ground between compassion and “tough love.”

Mercury enters Aries, Wednesday, April 12 at 5:17 PM PDT.
Mercury represents the personal microphone we each have. In Aries, we are willing to speak up, stand up, and be counted. Our opinions are likely to be aired a bit more fiercely. We may fall into arguments and use words as weapons. Comedic talent is enhanced; the art of the quick quip is available. We can think on our feet and respond rapidly (and could be a bit impulsive).

Jupiter quincunxes Pluto, Saturday, April 15 at 5:41 PM PDT.
A clash is possible between values and sexuality; between our principles and those of a mate; between our expansive, speculative side and our cautious, compulsive side. Conflicts might arise regarding joint resources, money, taxes (How fitting on IRS day!), or intimacy. The challenge of this aspect is to combine breadth and depth, so that we can be inspired, but also thorough. We may see the big picture and find it exciting, but also have the perseverance to hang in for long-term results. Ideally, we can appreciate both the material and spiritual and keep a good balance between the two.

Full Moon, Tuesday, April 18 at 10:42 AM PDT.
This Full Moon occurs at 26 Libra 59. Full Moons accent polarities and this one speaks to the dance between self and other. Our challenge is to find that happy medium between assertion and accommodation, between “your way” and “my way.” The middle point can include graceful action, negotiating skills and a good ability to see the viewpoints of others.

Sun enters Taurus, Wednesday, April 19 at 11:40 AM PDT.
Our self-esteem becomes more connected to what we earn, own and enjoy. We’ll be focused on appreciating the material and sensual world. Depending on our preferences, we may eat and drink a bit more, make love more often, spend money, create beauty, or enjoy our possessions. Gratification, comfort, and ease move up on the priority list. Financial matters could become more important to us. We seek out feel-good experiences.
