NEW MOON REPORT
by Maritha Pottenger
May 3, 2000
A massive stellium (group of planets) in Taurus marks this month's New
Moon. Expect all the matters of Taurus to be in high focus this month: money, possessions, pleasures, sensuality,
stability, security, and material resources. The challenge is to direct this focus constructively without falling into
careless hedonism, excessive materialism, or complacency. The time is ripe for sensible action to augment your material
base, to add to the comfort in your life, and to pursue satisfying pleasures (including beauty).
New Moon, Wednesday, May 3 at 9:12 PM PDT.
Now is the time for a major new chapter in regard to money. Along with the New Moon (of new beginnings), we will
have a whole collection of planets in Taurus. So, take this opportunity for a fresh start in regard to resources and
material matters. Wise moves can lead to greater comfort. This New Moon (at 14 Taurus 00) is particularly potent for
people born around May 2-8; August 4-10; November 4-10; or February 1-7.
Neptune turns retrograde, Monday, May 8 at 5:30 AM PDT.
A new cycle begins in regard to idealism, myth, magic, and mysticism. (This chapter finishes around October 15.)
Look for fresh approaches in terms of dreams, visions, and what inspires you. A different perspective could develop in
regard to art, beauty, spiritual matters, philanthropy, or healing and helping instincts.
Saturn squares Uranus, Saturday, May 13 at 1:34 AM PDT.
Tension between the old and the new reaches a peak. Progress vies with tradition. Risk-taking competes with
security. The challenge is to find a happy medium between hanging on to what is past its prime and throwing out
everything to start anew.
Mercury enters Gemini, Sunday, May 14 at 12:10 AM PDT.
Communication, commerce, and curiosity are accentuated. Thinking is apt to be a bit sharper and repartee could be more
entertaining. A quick, agile mind is probable and physical agility is also possible. Variety matters much now; keep
routines to a minimum.
Full Moon, Thursday, May 18 at 12:34 AM PDT.
This Full Moon occurs across 27 Scorpio/Taurus 40. The balancing act in focus is between self-indulgence and
self-control (whether around food, sexuality, spending/saving, or other aspects of enjoying the sensual world).
Challenges between giving and receiving are possible, or issues of who owns it, who earns it, and who calls the shots in
regard to money and pleasures. The best expression of this combination is to use money to make money, and to pursue a
wide array of physical pleasures without overdoing any single one. This Full Moon is extra significant for people born
around May 18-22; August 19-23; November 18-23; or February 15-20.
Jupiter squares Uranus, Saturday, May 20 at 6:16 AM PDT.
The urge to break loose and break free becomes stronger. The need for independence becomes more pressing. The
willingness to take chances for greater gain is present. Beware of foolish risks (especially in regard to money matters
and pleasures). New technology can offer opportunities for expansion and reaching toward a vision or large ambition.
Sun enters Gemini, Saturday, May 20 at 10:49 AM PDT.
The skills of a good host or hostess are highlighted. The ability to shine through one's mind or communication
skills is likely. A sparkling wit, entertaining conversations, and amusing anecdotes are possible. The fresh enthusiasm
of a child is available.
Uranus turns retrograde, Thursday, May 25 at 1:21 AM PDT.
A new cycle begins (until October 26). Think in terms of a fresh chapter in regard to modern tools, originality,
inventive spirit, and knowing which rules to break. A review and reexamination of where you most need independence and
openness in your life would be in order.
Venus enters Gemini, Thursday, May 25 at 5:15 AM PDT.
A flirtatious note enters the mix. Venus in Gemini is classic for "When I'm not near the one I love, I love
the one I'm near." Although this can apply to romance, it can also indicate new hobbies, pleasures, sources of
income, or other gratifying possibilities.
Jupiter conjuncts Saturn, Sunday, May 28 at 9:04 AM PDT.
The two planets of business are reinforcing one another. This is an excellent time to commit to a new project,
especially one that is well balanced between careful planning (Saturn) and confident expansion (Jupiter).
Mercury enters Cancer, Monday, May 29 at 9:27 PM PDT.
Thinking and communication will become more private and personal. People are apt to "clam up" more often
and security needs will affect what is said. This is an auspicious time to gather information about the public and to
work on marketing plans or identifying popular trends.
