NEW MOON REPORT
by Maritha Pottenger
January 24, 2001
New Moons symbolize new beginnings, and a New Moon in Aquarius
particularly accents future possibilities. The lure of what could be is strong. Interest in progress, inventions, new
technology, and what is outside the "normal" boundaries is accentuated. The iconoclast and breaker-of-rules is
apt to fare better. People can challenge the status quo and get away with it.
New Moon at 4 Aquarius 37, Wednesday, January 24 at 5:08 AM PST.
Consider this an opportunity to assert your independence. If you've been wanting to go out on your own (in terms of
business, relationships, establishing a home, etc.), the emphasis on change and fresh beginnings is strong now. Your
ingenuity will be accentuated. This is a time to heighten your individuality and be true to yourself. This New Moon
aspects your Sun if you were born around January 22-27; April 22-27; July 24-30; or October 26-30.
Saturn turns Direct, Wednesday, January 24 at 4:25 PM PST.
When the planet of reality, business, "just the facts" and pragmatism turns direct, it marks the beginning of
a new cycle. Think in terms of practical projects you can start that will come to fruition in about eight months (when
Saturn will turn retrograde in late September). Saturn is particularly relevant when you are interested in generating
tangible results or working with basic structures, power people or the Establishment.
Jupiter turns Direct, Thursday, January 25 at 00:39 (AM) PST.
Jupiter is a key to opportunity (in business but also in other aspects of your life). Since it is turning direct, the
emphasis is on taking the initiative to seek out chances to enlarge or improve your life, to expand your possibilities,
or to explore more widely (physically or mentally). This cycle will last for just over nine months. (Jupiter turns
retrograde in early November) and is appropriate for giving birth to something that will make your life better. With
Jupiter, we need to be inspired, to seek our highest ideals, to pursue our dreams.
Mercury enters Pisces, Wednesday, January 31 at 11:14 PM PST.
When the planet of the mind enters the sign of the imagination, our processing of information becomes more global and
holistic. We do better with illustrations and aesthetic judgments. Metaphors and poetic language come more easily.
Visualizing skills are enhanced. Because we are absorbing so much more, we can get overwhelmed and confused. It is extra
important to keep track of the details. File and categorize the data you get to keep good order.
Venus enters Aries, Friday, February 2 at 11:15 AM PST.
With the planet of love, affection, and pleasure entering the sign of "I want what I want and I want it now,"
some fireworks are quite likely. People will be more assertive about their personal desires. Don Juans and femme fatales
will be more willing to pursue their quarry. Romance may be seen as a contest or competition, but could also be very
exciting. Direct, forthright approaches are more likely. For some, that will be quite a turn-on. For those with a more
subtle style and retiring personality, hiding out will appeal.
Mercury turns retrograde, Saturday, February 3 at 5:59 PM PST.
The Mercury retrograde period (February 3-25) is an excellent time for going over material. We may do editing or
proofing of all sorts. Research, revisions, and reviews are favored. This is a chance to get more value out of
information or data that is already available. Some people have problems with directions, appointments, or
communication, so it is a good idea to confirm such matters, and double-check any fine print or important agreements.
Mercury returns to Aquarius, Tuesday, February 6 at 11:58 AM PST.
The planet of the mind returns to an air sign, emphasizing logic, detachment, tolerance, an open mind and the ability to
consider alternatives. Original thinking, brainstorming, unconventional ideas (and off-the-wall concepts) are all
possible.
Full Moon 19 Leo 35, Wednesday, February 7 at 11:13 PM PST.
Full Moons are excellent times for integration, for balancing the polarities of our lives. This one emphasizes finding
that golden mean between the heart and the head, between our emotional, passionate side and our detached, objective
side. We are also working on giving reasonable time and attention to being special and standing out (Leo) as well as
being part of the human race and affirming equal opportunity (Aquarius). This Full Moon is particularly significant for
people born around August 10-16; November 10-25; February 7-12; or May 8-13.
Mars enters Sagittarius, Wednesday, February 14 at 12:07 PM PST.
Mars, the hunter, enters into Sagittarius (the sign of adventure and exploration) just in time for Valentine's Day. We
expect that the aggressors in that dance between pursuer and pursued will be revved up and ready to go. Fiery passions
are quite possible. A lust for life is likely with an urge to seek excitement and challenges.
Sun enters Pisces, Sunday, February 18 at 6:28 AM PST.
A softer, gentler style is possible. Idealism becomes more paramount. The goal is to make a better or more beautiful
world. Whether you focus your efforts more on aesthetic matters or inspirational activities, a visionary quality is
likely. You can gain recognition and positive attention through transcendent, imaginative activities.
