NEW MOON REPORT
October 6, 2002

by Maritha Pottenger

The New Moon this month is in Libra, a sign of comparisons, contrasts and polarities. Since a number of cycle changes (sign ingresses and shifts from retrograde to direct or direct to retrograde) also occur, the emphasis is on reconciling opposites, on synthesizing different viewpoints, and finding that golden mean.

New Moon at 13 Libra 02, Sunday, October 6, 2002, at 4:19 AM PDT.
This New Moon this month is sextile Jupiter (in Leo) and Pluto (in Sagittarius), bringing additional depth and breadth to the diplomatic and partnership potential. Business ventures that involve teamwork are likely to go well. Assistance is available from others. Initiation is favored at the New Moon, especially for matters involving relationships, negotiation, beauty, balance, equality or justice. This New Moon is particularly significant for people born around October 4-9, January 2-6, April 1-6, or July 3-8.

Mercury turns direct, Sunday, October 6, 2002, at 12:27 AM PDT.
As Mercury turns direct, it is appropriate to go full bore once more with matters involving communication, transportation, and commerce. Take advantage of all opportunities to add to your fund of information, and to share knowledge with others.

Venus turns retrograde, Thursday, October 10, 2002, at 11:36 AM PDT.
A retrograde Venus period is a time to exercise caution in regard to major luxury purchases, cosmetic surgery, or other matters involving love, money, comfort, indulgence, and pleasure. Common sense will serve you best. (The retrograde period ends late in the day November 20, 2002.)

Mercury enters Libra, Thursday, October 10, 2002, at 10:57 PM PDT.
Ah, the silver-tongued diplomat is back. Now is the time to use words and phrases with grace and charm. Beautiful language (singing, poetry or just lovely metaphors, etc.) is a possibility. People can say the right thing at the right time, choosing the utterances that will be most pleasing to their audience. (On the downside, superficialities can prevail in conversation. Looking good is given too much importance.) Our world could benefit from a bit more grace, tact, charm, and elegance.

Saturn turns retrograde, Friday, October 11, 2002, at 6:02 AM PDT.
Saturn begins a new cycle, so be extra careful and realistic with matters involving business, authority figures, the handling of power, and questions of boundaries. Check also the cusp in your horoscope with Capricorn upon it: a new cycle may begin. (This cycle will end late in the day February 21, 2003.)

Jupiter semi-squares Saturn, Sunday, October 13, 2002, at 7:25 AM PDT.
With the two business planets at odds with one another, taking careful stock is a good idea. Expansive urges could vie with caution, consolidating drives. Finding a reasonable compromise is the best course. Do not go to either extreme. Stay in the middle ground.

Mars enters Libra, Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at 10:39 AM PDT.
The planet of assertion and "my way" enters the sign of accommodation and "your way." On the high side, this is excellent for cooperative ventures, meeting of the minds, grace in motion, active beauty, and taking the initiative within a partnership. (On the downside, we may have to fight to get our needs met in a relationship. Extremes between "my way" and "your way" are possible.) Remember the golden mean.

Neptune turns direct, Sunday, October 20, 2002 at 6:54 AM PDT.
A new cycle is possible in regard to spiritual matters, imaginative pursuits, idealistic yearnings, aesthetic activities, and the quest for infinite love and beauty. This chapter will last until May 15, 2003. Check also the cusp on your horoscope where Pisces is located; new developments may ensue in that area of life.

Full Moon at 27 Aries 43, Monday, October 21, 2002, at 00:21 AM PDT.
Full Moons show the promise of fulfillment. This could relate to a project begun at the Aries New Moon (in April) or to anything that is a pet, personal project. (Aries emphasizes "me" and "mine.") Relationship issues could emerge-particularly the dance between self and other, personal and interpersonal desires. This Full Moon is likely to be more potent for people born around April 16-21, July 18-24, October 19-24, or January 16-22.

Sun enters Scorpio, Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at 7:19 AM PDT.
Our "star power" is tied to intensity, perseverance, and an ability to see more deeply into life. We may shine through perceptive comments, shrewd financial moves, playing the roles of detective, researcher, or therapist, or exercising our full power for self-mastery and the control of our appetites. People are likely to be recognized for their resourcefulness and strength of will and purpose.

Mercury enters Scorpio, Thursday, October 31, 2002, at 2:44 PM PST.
The planet of thinking and communication enters the sign of hidden agendas, manipulation, investigation, and depth research. This is excellent for gaining a thorough understanding of any matter, for digging and probing, psychotherapeutic work, political awareness, or looking beneath the surface. (On the downside, paranoia, passive-aggressive conversations, and manipulative moves are possible.) Interest in the taboo, "Dark Side" or hidden matters may increase.

Uranus turns direct, Sunday, November 3, 2002, at 10:28 PM PST.
A fresh approach is possible in terms of astrology, new-age knowledge and activities, technology, or anything on the cutting edge of change. Brainstorming and inventive flashes flow more easily. The ability to question conventional wisdom and intimidate authorities is nearer to the surface. (Revolutionary potentials are rearing their heads.) Check also the cusp in your horoscope on which Aquarius appears; a new phase is possible in that arena. This cycle will last until June 7, 2003.
