NEW MOON REPORT
March 20, 2004

by Maritha Pottenger

Each of Maritha's insightful New Moon Reports covers general information about transits in the current new moon period. You can also obtain a personalized reading of each New Moon, based on your own birth data! More info...

There are two New Moons in Aries this year. With the first New Moon at the very beginning of Aries (the first sign of the zodiac), the emphasis on initiation, start-ups, and new beginnings of all sorts is particularly strong. Any projects emphasizing entrepreneurial efforts, self-directed actions, independence, working with metal tools or weapons, dealing with the outdoors, or featuring self-reliance and personal will are appropriate to undertake at this time. The second New Moon is in the last degree of Aries, so it contains an element of “finishing up” with Arian motifs.

New Moon, 0 Aries 39, Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 2:42 PM PST
This New Moon includes a sextile to assertive, active Mars (in curious, communicative Gemini), so has extra focus on courage, pioneering spirit and breaking new ground. The time is ripe for doing your own thing in the world. The octile (semi-square) to Venus (planet of comfort and pleasure) reminds us that new directions entail a degree of risk—and moving outside our comfort zones. Go for it! This New Moon is extra significant for people born around March 17-24, June 20-25, September 22-26, or December 21-25.

Mars enters Gemini, Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 11:40 PM PST
Repartee and quick quips are on the rise as the planet of action enters the sign of communication, curiosity and commerce. Thinking and speaking are apt to be more rapid (and perhaps impulsive). Hand-eye coordination may be enhanced and people may be more physically agile. Words can also be used as weapons—biting, sarcastic, ironic. It is time to take the initiative in regard to business and the pursuit or dissemination of information.

Pluto turns retrograde, Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 7:10 AM PST
A new chapter may begin and last until Pluto turns direct on August 30, 2004. Check the house in your horoscope that has Scorpio on the cusp to consider what fresh phase is possible. A different direction could develop in regard to intimacy, shared resources, research, or anything involving intense emotions or digging beneath the surface.

Mercury enters Taurus, Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 6:29 PM PST
The planet of communication enters the sign of pleasure, indulgence and finances. Perhaps you can make money using your mind or communication skills. Perhaps conversations will be more pleasant or people will create lovely word pictures (poetry, singing, song writing, etc.). A more comfortable, laid-back approach is likely in regard to commercial matters.

Venus enters Gemini, Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 6:58 AM PST
The planet of love and pleasure moves into the sign of variety and communication. We may spend more time talking things over with loved ones—or we may be inclined to flirt more. Pleasure is tied to many different interests and experiences. Grace and beauty may be expressed through the mind, tongue or hands.

Full Moon, 16 Libra 00, Monday, April 5, 2004 at 4:04 AM PDT
This Full Moon emphasizes the polarity of self and others. People are working on the balancing act between assertion and accommodation, deciding how much time to spend alone and how much to share with others. This Full Moon is particularly significant for people born around April 4-9, July 7-11, October 8-12, or January 5-9.

Mercury turns retrograde Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 1:28 PM PDT
Traditionally, a Mercury retrograde period is excellent for research, revisions, or going over anything and everything one more time. It is an excellent time to double-check the fine print, confirm appointments, and be sure that any paperwork is truly in good order. (Some people will not sign contracts during a Mercury retrograde period.) This phase lasts until April 30, 2004.

Mercury enters Aries, Monday, April 12, 2004 at 6:24 PM PDT
The planet of thinking and speaking moves into eager, impulsive Aries again and off-the-cuff utterances may be on the rise. Extemporaneous speakers could do well, as could stand-up comics and people who rely on quick thinking and fast verbal responses. Personal interests move to the forefront.

New Moon, 29 Aries 49, Monday, April 19, 2004 at 6:22 AM PDT
This New Moon is widely conjunct Mercury, so brings in an element of thinking or communication to the traditional time of new beginnings. These beginnings, however, should be with projects that somehow bring self-directed projects to a close. (The 29 th degree of a sign is associated with ending matters, with finishing up.) So, take the initiative in order to bring closure to tasks involving metal tools, weapons, assertion, independence, action, or personal will. This New Moon would be more significant for people born around April 18-23, July 21-25, October 21-26, or January 18-23.
