NEW MOON REPORT
June 17, 2004

by Maritha Pottenger

Each of Maritha's insightful New Moon Reports covers general information about transits in the current new moon period. You can also obtain a personalized reading of each New Moon, based on your own birth data! More info...

New Moons in Gemini are favorable for initiating action that has to do with mental activities (collecting or disseminating information, teaching, writing, speaking) or manual dexterity, or physical agility. The accent is on learning, communication, and flexibility.

New Moon, 26 Gemini 57, Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 1:28 PM PDT.

The New Moon of initiation and opportunity includes a conjunction to Mercury (the planet of communication and ruler of Gemini), so the focus is doubled up on mental agility. New ideas are likely to abound. This is a favorable time to begin projects that involve speaking, teaching, writing, or other intellectual activities. Versatility and communication skills are accentuated.

This New Moon could be significant for people born around June 17-22, September 19-23, December 18-22, or March 17-21.

Mercury enters Cancer, Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 12:51 PM PDT.

The planet of curiosity and communication enters the sign of home, family, and security. Discussions are likely to center around household matters or ways to achieve more safety. If people view conversations as a threat, they may “clam up.” Classes centering around domestic skills or genealogy or solving familial issues could prove popular. Emotional matters are a major focus of people’s thinking and talking.

Sun enters Cancer, Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 5:58 PM PDT.

People want to shine within the domestic arena. This could be a “diva” on the home front, someone who is very proud of their roots, an individual seeking kudos for their showplace home or great ability as a cook or host or hostess. Emotional warmth and connections move up on the priority list.

Mars enters Leo, Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 1:52 PM PDT.

The planet of action enters the sign of creativity, romance, and excitement. The urge for a rush of adrenaline becomes stronger. People are willing to risk, to gamble, to “go for the gusto.” A whole-hearted pursuit of thrills is probable. Sexual charisma is heightened. People may rush into creative project or love affairs without much forethought.

Saturn quincunxes Neptune, Thursday, June 24, 2004 at 9:41 AM PDT.

The planet of idealism is in conflict with the planet of realism. On the down side, this can indicate “cosmic discontent”—no matter what we do, we feel it could have been better or more perfect in some fashion. More constructively, we can bring visions and dreams into form—whether of an artistic aesthetic type or of an idealistic, compassionate or spiritual variety. We must keep a good balance between our visionary aspirations and what is possible in this material world.

Venus goes direct, Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 4:16 PM PDT.

A new cycle for the planet of love, affection, and pleasure. If you’ve been putting off a major purchase while Venus was retrograde, the light is green now. You may begin a new chapter. Check the houses of your horoscope where Taurus (ruled by Venus) and Libra (ruled by Venus) fall on the cusps. This is a time to be more proactive in pursuit of gratification—both from the physical world (and money) and from the world of people and interpersonal relationships.

Full Moon, 10 Capricorn 54, Friday, July 2, 2004 at 4:10 AM PDT.

This Full Moon accents the polarity between private and public spaces, the domestic arena and one’s career (or contribution to society), and between conditional and unconditional love. Our challenge is to find a happy medium. This Full Moon could be more significant for people born around July 2-6, October 2-7, January 1-6, or March 30-April 4.

Mercury enters Leo, Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 7:53 AM PDT,

The planet of thinking and talking enters the sign of showmanship. A silver-tongued orator may show up—or people could be more dramatic in their speech. Arrogance and issues of “divine right” may pervade the thinking. This combination is excellent for advertising, public relations, and politics—anything where we need to persuade others, to be center stage and have a marked impact.

Jupiter quincunxes Neptune, Friday, July 9, 2004 at 2:11 PM PDT.

Both planets of idealism (and the quest for the best) are in conflict. This could be a clash of values (including The Truth versus Compassion or bluntness and “little, white lies”). It might be that people are too caught up in dreams and visions and need to be a bit more grounded. It could be that perfectionistic goals are keeping people frustrated and less effective than they could be. The challenge is to have aspirations, but to make sure that they can be achieved in the real world.
